WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump has threatened to double stock prices if US stocks don't recover soon from their recent dramatic fall.

"With a stock tariff, we can get prices back up quickly. How hard can it be?” Trump said.

Last week, Trump's decision to impose high import duties on foreign goods caused considerable chaos on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Index lost more than 10 percent, while the Nasdaq even plunged by a spectacular 14 percent.

Trump has given stock traders a week to reverse the decline.

Trump is prepared to impose a special tariff on stocks if necessary.

According to the US president, US stocks have been plagued for far too long by European investors who want to sit in the front row for a dime: “The prices will go up, believe me. And if the prices don’t go up, I will impose a tariff to double the prices of stocks.”

Critics accuse Trump of not understanding how financial markets work, but his supporters praise his “innovative approach” to economic problems.
